Tonight we’re going to my favorite all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet restaurant. I love Chinese food – I could eat it every day! My favorites are sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, and lo mein noodles. And the meat filled dumplings – some places call them pot stickers. But I really enjoy the buffets because I can have a little bit of everything – I like all sorts of chicken and shrimp dishes! I am not a big fan of sushi, though, but the sushi bar looks beautiful – the sushi chef makes it all look like candy! What a rude awakening to my mouth to put something in that looks like candy but tastes like fish and seaweed!
Well, after a long hard week at work, I’m glad the weekend is here! We’re going to go eat out at the local Ruby Tuesday for supper tonight. It will be a real treat because we don’t eat out very often. Money is tight, and the price of gas makes us think really hard about going anywhere. But, we are going to see a movie after the meal, so that makes me feel a little less guilty about going out “just to eat.”
We are joining a few friends that we haven’t seen for a while; it will be good to catch up with them. I hate that we get so busy that we don’t get together as often as we used to. We need to try harder to keep in touch with them. Friends and family are what make life worth living!
Today my parents took my hubby and I out to eat lunch at the local Golden Corral restaurant. I have to admit that this was one of the first times that I was actually disappointed in the selection of food there. There were no hush-puppies anywhere. And the onion rings tasted like fried chicken. Not that I dislike fried chicken, but if I wanted fried chicken then I would have taken some fried chicken. Their offering of “steak” was in the form of mini-burgers. They called them Steak burgers, but they did not taste like steak to me. They were just not impressive at all.
Today I decided to be adventurous and try something new – collard greens. That is one of the things I like about buffets – you can try new things without making a major commitment to it. And as for the collard greens – no, I didn’t like them at all. They had too much of a “pork” taste to them. Why do people have to keep adding pork to their vegetables? I don’t understand it at all.
One of the things that I always love at Golden Corral is their yeast rolls. If I could survive on eating just those all day every day I think that I would be in Heaven for sure!
Chinese takeout is a great American tradition and that’s what I’m having for dinner tonight. There are dozens of little Chinese restaurants all over every city across the U.S.A. where you can call in an order of Special #2 or Combo #4 and they will deliver your food to your door. I cannot imagine living so far out of the city that I couldn’t order Chinese takeout for dinner once in a while.
The Chinese food carryout close to my house is owned by a real Chinese family and they barely speak any English. When I go to the restaurant, it’s not a problem ordering because I can point to the printed menu and they can see what I want. But when I call in my order I never know if I’m really going to get what I wanted. In a way, it doesn’t matter much because everything they cook is delicious. But sometimes I really want a certain thing and being disappointed in the food order is not the way to start your dinner.
I have a hard time getting them to understand my address for the delivery, too. I wish I could order over the internet so they could just read the information instead of spending 5 frustrating minutes on the phone trying to tell them where to find my house. Or maybe they could start a file with regular customers so all they have to do is look it up?
It has been a very busy week at work, been putting in a lot of overtime. So I was just too tired to cook supper tonight. So we went out to eat dinner at a local all-you-can-eat restaurant so I wouldn’t have to bother with cooking supper or washing dishes. I like this restaurant a lot – you order your main course of meat (or pasta) and then you help yourself to their buffet style bars full of veggies, salads, fruits, desserts, breads, etc. The price is reasonable, and the food is always good. And I get to eat without having to do any of the work!
