The way your favorite artists sound on your computer or music player is nothing compared to the way those artists sound in person. While some blanch at spending money on expensive concert tickets, going to those shows is a simple way to support your favorite artists. Some of the top artists of today will join together for some of the hottest shows of the upcoming year. Whether you’re a traditionalist who loves classic rock, or you prefer the more popular music of today, now is a good time to learn more about the hottest tours and concerts of 2015.

Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac gained a new legion of fans after an episode of the television series “Glee” centered on the band’s music. Singer Stevie Nicks later brought more attention to the band after appearing and singing on “American Horror Story: Coven” before coming back to the band. Fleetwood Mac now features the same original lineup that recorded a series of hit songs years ago. Though the band went on tour in 2014, their fans clamored for more. After selling out venues across the country, Fleetwood Mac announced plans to go back on tour.

Billy Idol

Jordan Kurland and others who appreciate the sounds of the late 1980s and early 1990s can look forward to seeing Billy Idol back on tour. Best known for songs like “White Wedding” and his white blonde hair, the singer will hit the stage in 2015 for a concert that many believe might sell out. Though Idol performed throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s, he also took some time to focus on his family and his personal life, but the singer is now back with a vengeance. Opening up for Idol are the bands Tropical Depression and Little Man.

Garth Brooks

Garth Brooks is the top selling country music artist of all time. He recorded a series of hit songs and set records that artists like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift have yet to break. After trying to cross over into the pop music world, he returned to country and spent several years recording before retiring to spend time with his wife, fellow artist Tricia Yearwood, and his family. Jordan and anyone else who has a fondness for country music will see Brooks tour the country in 2015. Garth Brooks, Billy Idol and Fleetwood Mac represent some of the top concerts and tours for the upcoming year.

Music is a personal thing

One thing that my husband and I do not agree on is music. He likes the “moldy oldies” from the 1940’s and 1950’s while I much prefer to listen to what I call “classic” rock and roll like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones,  and The Who.  Since my hubby is home all of the time, and in pain from all of his injuries, I humor him and let him listen to his music when we are together. But when I am alone, if music is playing it is “my” music as quick as I can change the station!

Another thing we disagree on when it comes to listening to music is that he likes to listen to music at the highest volume possible! That loudness really hurts my ears! So there are a lot of times when I get into my car and start the engine and am blasted with very loud music! I need to learn to turn the volume down on the radio before I even turn the key!

Tips for Your Online Dating Profile

Dating today is nowhere near the same as it was decades ago. Today, instead of likely meeting someone while at school, work, or through friends, many people are taking their dating lives to the Internet. The popularity of online dating websites like Match.com and eHarmony.com, as well as the popularity of dating apps like Tinder, has grown tremendously over the years. In fact, more than 41,000,000 people have tried online dating.

When you use online dating, you’re asked to create an online dating profile. This profile is what other users will look at to determine if they want to meet you. Usually, communication is started between you and a prospect to determine if you have anything in common that warrants a real date, and real dates are set forth from there if desired.

Since your Internet dating success rate is based mostly on your profile, you’ll want to ensure you create one that makes you attractive to potential suitors. Here are some tips to help you create the best online dating profile.

Talk about yourself.

Although this may seem obvious, many people use their online dating profile to discuss the person they want to meet instead of themselves, and this is a big no-no. If you want someone to be interested in you, it’s important to talk about you. It is okay to mention what you’re looking for, but be sure the majority of your profile discusses you instead of what you want.

Be positive.

Most online profiles will ask you to list likes and dislikes, and if your dislikes far outnumber your likes, you may turn off potential suitors. Being too negative can have a negative impact on your love life. After all, if your entire profile is one big complaint, nobody will want to meet you in real life and listen to Negative Nancy all night long.

Instead, be positive. Talk about what you love to do and what you like to do. If there is something you don’t like, try turning into a positive. For example, if you hate a certain genre of music, talk about the type of music that you do like instead. This will be much more attractive.

Look your best, but in a real way.

Because most people make snap judgments based on the picture they see, it’s important that you put a decent profile picture on your profile to make you attractive to suitors. However, it’s also important that you don’t lie. For example, if you’re 40, putting a picture of yourself from when you were 21 is not a good idea. The individual who wants to meet you for a date will be very disappointed when you don’t look like your picture.

Take a real picture of yourself and put it on your profile. Do your best to make yourself attractive, such as by doing your hair, wearing makeup, and smiling. (Hint: This would be a good time to visit the dentist to give you the best smile, such as through teeth whitening or dental implants.) By using an attractive yet realistic picture of yourself, you’ll be more likely to impress the individual you date in person.

Princess For A Day

Some people love shoes. Others love clothes. Still other people love purses, or hats. As for me, well, I love jewellery. I think it goes back to my childhood years, when I would go visit my grandmother on the farm.

Normally, at the farm, I played outside all day long. But when the weather turned wet, so I couldn’t go play outside, Grandma would pull out her old McCall’s magazines and sit me down at the kitchen table. She would give me a pair of child-safe scissors and let me cut out the old Betsy McCall paper dolls and clothes that were always found on the back page of the magazine, and play with them while Grandma put a roast and some potatoes and veggies in the oven/on the stove to cook for dinner.

When I got tired of playing paper dolls, and dinner was properly started, we would go upstairs to her bedroom. Under normal circumstances, her bedroom was “off limits” to the grandchildren, so it was very special to even be allowed in the room! Just being in her bedroom, smelling the floral and cedar perfumes in the air felt like a forbidden adventure, and I was in seventh heaven just being there! She would lift me up on the very high bed, and tell me to sit still for a moment, and close my eyes.

Then she would go to the closet and open the door. The delightful odor of cedar would waft out of the closet while she pulled out the step stool stored on the floor and step up on it. She would then stand on her tiptoes (I was peeking) and pull out her old jewellery box that she kept on the top shelf of her closet. Walking slowly to the bed, she would wind a small key that was in the back of the box, then she sat down on the bed beside me and tell me I could now open my eyes.

Letting me hold the box with her, we would slowly, and carefully, lift the lid together. The perfume of a lilac sachet tucked inside would delight my olfactory senses the moment the lid was opened. The ivory colored box was lined with satin, had a mirror on the interior of the lid, and a small ballerina figurine that slowly spun to music that played when the lid was opened. She would show me all of the shiny, glittering necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings that she used to wear when she was a young and single girl.

She would tell me about the dances that she went to, and all the handsome young men that she would dance with before she met my grandfather. She even let me try on some of the jewellery – beaded necklaces, pearlescent tear-drop earrings, and golden charm bracelets that wrapped around my slender arm twice and made music when I moved.

Properly adorned, she would gently lift me off the bed and lead me to the free-standing full length mirror that was in the corner of her bedroom to admire my decorated little self. Arriving at the mirror, she would then gently place a beautiful rhinestone tiara on the top of my head, making it official – I was a beautiful princess!

She would have me turn slowly around, pretending to be the ballerina figure in the musical jewellery box, telling me how beautiful and graceful I was. She would laugh, and clap, and then we would go downstairs to the kitchen to have a proper tea party with my adoring audience, my grandfather, (having come inside for dinner) who treated me like I was the most precious person in the world.

Although I was a rough and tumble tom-boy, these were magical moments, and those memories are very precious to me. And that is how my love affair with jewellery began. Every time I look at jewellery, try on jewellery, wear jewellery, I feel that love, that magic, again. Don’t you dare ever try to take my jewellery away from me!

Notes of progress

When my father was still alive, he was a professional musician. He spent many nights entertaining other people, performing at weddings, parties, bar mitzvahs, stage shows. He had come from a very long line of musicians, as far back as anyone could remember, music was their life’s work. He took great pride in the fact that he could play several instruments very well. Me, I could barely read sheet music and wasn’t very good at playing any instrument that my parents wanted me to learn. I’ve always felt that if the music teachers would teach the students how to play the popular music of the times, instead of the music from decades long past, more young people would be interested and motivated to learn to play an instrument. But who wants to learn how to play “Greensleeves” on the guitar when all of the “in” kids are performing beat box and the Harlem Shake?

Whenever I go to a convention or seminar of some kind where the producers felt the need to bring out some musical entertainment, I’m always interested to see the band members actually playing their instruments. Instead, one person sits at a keyboard that has a music recording software computer program loaded into it and they just pick out a previously recorded play-list. Sure, the music is good, but I’m just not as inspired to applaud in between songs. I wonder if my father would have embraced this technology, or if he would have hated it.
