Happy New Year

It is so cold and windy out that we decided to stay in tonight. We were thinking about eating out, but were actually feeling rather lazy. So we stayed in and cooked up a DiGiorno’s pizza for supper and are going to watch television and watch the ball drop and call it a year. This has been a rough year for many people; I hope next year is a better one for us all! With the presidential campaigns going on, it will certainly be very interesting to say the least!

Merry Christmas to all

Today was a busy, but happy day. Lots of friends and relatives, lots of good food. Not many presents because everyone is feeling the budget crunch. But what is really important at this time of year is getting together with people you care about, right? Christmas is about being with loved ones, and that is what happened, so it is all good. Hope you had a good Christmas too!

Hooked on books

Just recently a friend of mine decided that he wanted to do a book exchange program with me. Seems that I have a lot of books he would like to read and he has a lot of books that he thinks I should read. So he started bringing the books that he’s read that belong to him, and then he picks one of my books that he wants to read. So far it has worked out pretty well; he’s returned every book he borrowed from me, and I’ve returned every book that I’ve borrowed from him. So far the books he has recommended have been interesting to read.

Tips for Starting a Coin Collection

Whether inspired after a gift or discovery of a rare coin, starting a coin collection is both enjoyable and monetarily rewarding. The right coins will become an investment, increasing value over the years. To begin looking for local rare coins, you’ll need the right tools, mindset and research to discover the right coins for your collection. Coin collectors must be able to differentiate minute details to determine rare collectables, while negotiating with vendors on price.

1.) Focus on collecting the coins that you like, not just their value. Just like stocks, their value fluctuates with the market and availability. Experienced collectors recognize that focusing on value over enjoyment will lead to disappointment. Researching values can add to an educational aspect, but only purchase coins that spark your interest.

2.) Much like with any project, set goals. Even if you’ve begun an eclectic collection built on coins that struck your eye, you can create direction from each by focusing on patterns for a more complete project. Furthermore, when you meet these goals you’ll find even more enjoyment from your hobby.

3.) Build relationships with dealers; the effect is two-fold. You’ll not only receive honest service, but will receive notification when they locate a coin for which you’ve been seeking.
