Jobs in the Green Market

March 7th, 2009

I was reading on the Forbes.com news website that the “hottest” job trends are in the “green” market.  The article indicates that Washington DC, Boston MA, Houston TX, San Fransisco, San Diego and Las Angelas are all going to be huge markets for “green” industries.

I sure hope that’s true.  We could use some job growth around here!  Lately it seems to have been all “doom and gloom” news about the economy and people losing jobs.  We sure need more jobs, and better jobs right here in the area!

I’ve got the Monday blues

January 12th, 2009

Most people hate Mondays.  I’m one of them!  The work week is waaaay too long, the weekend is waaaay to short!  I really don’t have anything against Monday, as a day.  It’s just that I get so nervous that I might not wake up to the alarm clock going off on Monday morning that I don’t sleep at all Sunday night.  I toss and turn and look at the clock about every forty-five minutes.  So when the alarm finally DOES go off, I’m exhausted because I haven’t slept at all!  And it seems like everyone around me is cranky on Mondays, which makes it hard to deal with, because I’m tired!  Maybe they didn’t sleep either!?  I may as well face it; I think I’m allergic to work!

The economic mess worsens

September 5th, 2008

I understand that the DOW fell 340 points yesterday, largely due to the news of rising unemployment and loss of retail sales.  I don’t usually pay a lot of attention to the stock market – I bought some stock a long time ago and just put it away, hoping to maybe make a little bit of money on it “in the long run.”  I’ve always been told to buy stock when the market is down, so this would be a good time to buy – if I had money to invest!

But money is too tight right now to put anything into investments, it is hard just paying the bills.  The economy of the US is in trouble though, and I think it is going to get worse before it gets better.

Tax free holiday this weekend

July 31st, 2008

I heard that the state is holding a tax holiday this weekend on school supplies and clothes under $100!  That’s good news for families who need to buy those things for their kids to get ready for back to school!  It’s hard to even think of back to school at this point – it seems to me that summer has just begun, and we are thinking about back to school sales already!  I guess it really is true that the older you get the faster time seems to fly right by!

Happy July 1st!

July 1st, 2008

Where does the time fly? The turning of the calendar page from June to July was a shock to me this morning; I barely even noticed June was happening! And now the dog days of July are upon us. I don’t like the excessive heat and humidity that July brings upon us; it is the summer month that I try to hide inside as much as possible, trying to stay in air conditioned comfort as much as possible. The weatherman says that the next couple of days will be unusually cool for July, and I’m glad to hear that.
One of the things that I dislike so much about July is that it is impossible to dress appropriately. It is so hot out that you want to wear short sleeves and short pants, but if you go into an office building or store or movie theater the air conditioning is cranked up so high that you need to wear long pants, long sleeves AND a sweater! So I end up wearing long pants, long sleeves and carrying a sweater and I feel like a real dufus doing it. With the big focus on the cost of fuel and the economy it seems to me that the offices, stores, and movie theaters would set their thermostats just a little bit warmer! Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want them set at 78 or 80, but 76 would be nice!
