My friend Jim’s wife runs the Ballet Academy in town, and they have been trying to raise money to help pay for their expenses to go to London to perform during the Olympics. I’m not quite sure of the details on exactly WHERE in London they are going to perform, but they have been trying to get local companies to donate money to help pay for their airfare and the London Apartments that they will be staying in once they get there.
They held a preview performance last weekend at the Unicorn Winery and were disappointed that only about fifty people showed up to see the performance. They were asking for a twenty dollar donation to come see the performance, and apparently part of the twenty dollars was supposed to include a wine tasting at the winery as well. I was sorry that I missed the performance but I had some family responsibilities to tend to and could not get away to attend. When I saw Jim yesterday he was telling me that they still needed to raise several thousand dollars to pay for the troupe’s airfare and London Apartments expenses.
I wonder if holding a raffle would help them to raise the money – I think that the next time I see him I’ll suggest that he does that.
