My Halloween costume

October 29th, 2008

We’re going to a Halloween costume party this Friday and I’ve finally got my costume all ready to go.  I decided to make my own costume this year, just for the fun of it.  I decided to dress like an angel and managed to find some nice angel wings and a halo at the costume store.  I bought a very pretty white nightgown for the angel gown, figuring that I can actually wear it as a nightgown later.  (Yeah, I’m practical like that!) My boyfriend is dressing up like a devil; we are representing ourselves as “Heaven and Hades.”

I’m really looking forward to the party – it’s been a long time since I’ve been to a costume party, and I really enjoy them a lot!  I hope we win the best couples costumes prize!

What is this garbage about “No Home, no vote?”

October 23rd, 2008

I’ve been hearing on CNN that there has been some controversy in Michigan about a high ranked Republican official who was mis-quoted as saying that he was going to try to prevent people who lost their homes to foreclosure from voting. That has caused quite an uproar, as you can imagine! When I heard the news at first I missed part of the story, so I wasn’t sure where this was happening. But today I heard more of the story and apparently it was in Michigan. After all of the brouhaha had settled down, the gist of the story is that if someone has lost their home to foreclosure and no longer lives in the same precinct as he did when he registered, then he can’t vote. But that really has nothing to do with foreclosure, it has to do with voting in the precinct in which you actually live!

So this is one story that may have been blown out of proportion (imagine that!)

Going bananas

October 17th, 2008

I was reading on the Time.com website that there is a shortage of bananas in Japan because of the popularity of a new diet fad called the morning banana diet. The “diet” consists of eating one (or as many as you want) bananas for breakfast with a glass of water, and eating anything you want for lunch and dinner (as long as you skip dessert) and you have to go to bed before midnight. People seem to think this diet works, so they are buying up bananas as soon as they reach the store shelves! I haven’t noticed a shortage of bananas around here yet, I wonder if the fad will hit here too!

Fall foliage drive

October 11th, 2008

We decided to go for a fall foliage drive this weekend; we heard that the fall foliage was near peak, and we wanted to have a little bit of relaxation and enjoy the scenery.  So we packed up a picnic lunch and headed out for a short but scenic drive out Route 211 into the mountains.  With the price of gas so high we couldn’t drive too far, but we found a nice scenic overlook spot with a picnic table and enjoyed a nice lunch of cheese, bread, apples, and sparkling cider.  The weather cooperated, it was a warm, beautiful clear day and we could see for miles!  All in all it was a very pleasant day today.  I’d like to make an annual event of doing this!  I hope the price of gas doesn’t make it impossible to do next year!

Glad to hear

October 5th, 2008

Well, I was glad to hear some news today other than the Presidential race and the big bailout. I heard that OJ Simpson was convicted of kidnapping and assault, and could get up to 21 years of prison sentence! I have to say that I am one of those people who truly believed he was guilty of those murders thirteen years ago, and I was disappointed that he was not convicted of them at that time. So I am delighted that he is being sent to prison for SOMETHING at least – I believe that he is a bad man and SHOULD be incarcerated!
